Leadership Skills – becoming an Authentic Leader
The Innovo leadership courses are designed and delivered around three core principles of leadership:
- Leadership is a decision not a position
- The skills and techniques of effective leadership can be learned and developed over time
- Leaders must be authentic with their leadership style
An authentic leader understands themselves and the beliefs and values that drive their behavior. This provides them with solid foundation from which to make conscious decisions that they believe in and will inspire others to believe in them.
An authentic leader needs to demonstrate the following characteristics and behaviors:
- Authentic leaders are promise keepers
- Transparency in communication with all stakeholder is essential
- As an authentic leader you should give staff the authority to use their judgment
- As an authentic leader you need to establish a culture that values openness
- When it comes to review time, make sure that you see the person as a real human being.
In a competitive marketplace where the development of Sustainable Competitive Advantage is paramount, the hard-edge characteristics of vision, risk-taking, strategic thinking and entrepreneurship are acutely desirable. However, as a rule, leaders must stay true to who they are.
On Innovo Training & Development leadership programmes, we build on the above philosophies to ensure the product of our interventions are well rounded authentic leaders who are focussed on developing applying best practice leadership skills to their organisations.
