Team Building – Understanding Your Team Role

Team building has long been thought of as an "attitudinal adjustment" issue addressed by taking teams on adventures and playing simulation games to build an esprit de corps. In the long run this approach tends to be ineffective because it largely ignores the fundamental characteristics of what is vital for team success and the organizational problems that cause most teams to fail.

Our experience has shown that the single most effective way to improve team performance and maximize the contribution of individual team members is to provide the team with a practical working understanding of team roles.

In this workshop based programme participants will explore team role theory and understand their own team role and how they work within a team structure. Through hands-on activities participants will also learn how to immediately and dramatically improve team performance through the application of these team role concepts to their working environments.

The workshop is based on the work of Dr. Meredith Belbin, one of the world’s pioneers in team research and the author of ‘Management Teams, Why They Succeed or Fail’ and ‘Team Roles at Work’. His research, conducted at Henley (Europe’s oldest and most respected management college) and the Industrial Training Unit at Cambridge is the foundation of modern Team Role Theory.

Innovo only uses accredited, qualified and experienced Belbin Team Role assessors to work in this area with our clients.
